Welsh Cakes

Welsh cakes are a cross between a cookie, a scone, and a pancake but they are unlike any of these when it comes to taste and texture. They are about three (3) inches in diameter and one-half (1/2) inches thick. Welsh Cakes are made with flour, sugar, milk, butter and spices and are cooked like a pancake on a griddle or cast iron bakestone. They are considered a special treat since, being handmade, they take a great deal of time and effort to make. They are commonly known in Wales as Picau a y maen, Cage Bach and Cacennau Cymreig, depending on what part of Wales you are in.
